EarnForex.com Monthly Newsletter

*February 5, 2013*

Welcome to the latest issue of EarnForex.com newsletter — February
2013.

In this issue of EarnForex.com newsletter I will remind you about the
most important Forex-related events of the last month and will also
show you the list of the site's latest updates.

*
Overview of the major currency pairs' performance in January*

*EUR/USD* — in January, euro rallied almost unchallenged by the US
dollar. It was at the maximum at 1.3594 on January 31, at its minimum
at 1.2997 on January 4, finishing the month at 1.3576.

*GBP/USD* — ran straight down in January as the pound was one of the
weakest currencies that month. The highest monthly rate was at 1.6256
on January 3, while the lowest — at 1.5674 on January 28. GBP/USD
finished January trading at 1.5855.

*USD/JPY* — rallied like all other JPY-based currency pairs. The
pair rose to as high as 91.78 on January 31, reaching a bottom at
86.77 on January 3 and closing the month with the 91.70 rate.

*EUR/JPY* — demonstrated the biggest monthly gain since inception of
euro. The monthly high was at 124.60 on January 31, the monthly low
— at 113.55 on January 9. Trading ended at 124.50 for this currency
pair.

*GBP/JPY* — rose but less prominently than other JPY currency pairs.
The maximum level for this pair was 145.51 on January 31, while the
minimum — 139.26 on January 23. The month's trading ended at 145.39
for GBP/JPY.

*
Fundamental background of the past month*

January started with volatile trading
<http://www.topforexnews.com/2013/01/05/volatile-first-trading-week-of-2013/?utm_source=n201302&utm_medium=web&utm_campaign=n201302>
after US politicians had averted the fiscal cliff
<http://www.topforexnews.com/2013/01/02/dollar-slumps-as-fiscal-cliff-averted/?utm_source=n201302&utm_medium=web&utm_campaign=n201302>
virtually the last minute. Risk-sensitive currencies sharply rallied
after the news, but a drop followed quickly and it was even bigger
than the initial rally for the most currencies.

The dollar fell after the fiscal cliff was averted, but quickly
regained its strength. The speculations that the Federal Reserve may
end its quantitative easing program
<http://www.topforexnews.com/2013/01/04/cad-loses-ground-to-usd-beats-eur/?utm_source=n201302&utm_medium=web&utm_campaign=n201302>
as early as this year added to the currency's performance.
Additionally, market participants found another reason to worry: the
debt ceiling. Currently, US lawmakers removed the ceiling
<http://www.topforexnews.com/2013/01/23/dollar-fluctuates-as-us-politicians-temporary-remove-debt-ceiling/?utm_source=n201302&utm_medium=web&utm_campaign=n201302>
, easing concern about the problem, but that is just a temporary
measure. As for removal of QE, it does not look likely after the last
Fed's policy statement that said about pause in economic activity
<http://www.topforexnews.com/2013/02/02/dollar-mixed-after-fed-meeting-non-farm-payrolls/?utm_source=n201302&utm_medium=web&utm_campaign=n201302>
.

The positive risk sentiment, which made the dollar a bit weak,
propelled the euro. There were a plenty of reports that hinted at
stabilization of the eurozone economy
<http://www.topforexnews.com/2013/01/29/eurusd-reaches-highest-rate-since-2011/?utm_source=n201302&utm_medium=web&utm_campaign=n201302>
and increased traders' confidence in the shared 17-nation currency.
The European Central Bank also helped
<http://www.topforexnews.com/2013/01/12/ecb-makes-week-good-for-euro/?utm_source=n201302&utm_medium=web&utm_campaign=n201302>
, saying that the economy should emerge from recession this year.

The yen was weakening
<http://www.topforexnews.com/2013/01/02/yen-joins-dollar-in-rally-to-downside/?utm_source=n201302&utm_medium=web&utm_campaign=n201302>
ever since the new pro-stimulus government had taken power and
continued to fall for the whole month. The currency demonstrated
short-time bounces (for example when the Bank of Japan disappointed
traders with its monetary policy decision
<http://www.topforexnews.com/2013/01/22/yen-rallies-even-as-boj-introduces-open-ended-qe-program/?utm_source=n201302&utm_medium=web&utm_campaign=n201302>
), but that did not prevent the Japanese currency to reach lowest
levels in several year against some currencies
<http://www.topforexnews.com/2013/02/02/jpy-extends-drop-reaches-record-low-since-2010-vs-usd-eur/?utm_source=n201302&utm_medium=web&utm_campaign=n201302>
